Northern Healthy Connections Society would like to make the public aware that this organization is mandated and funded by the Nova Scotia Department of Health and Wellness and the Nova Scotia Health Authority to address the opioid crisis in Northern Nova Scotia. The services provided are needle distribution and needle disposal for individuals who are involved in substance use and in particular individuals injecting substances. This service not only provides harm reduction supplies but the yellow sharps containers used for proper disposal of used needles as well as encourage individuals to return the full containers back to be disposed of. The team offers this service Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30 and during Mobile Outreach in Pictou, Cumberland, Colchester and East Hants Counties. Part of our mission is to create an environment that promotes the health and well-being of the whole community. Therefore, it is extremely important that used needles are not discarded in public places such as garbage bags, behind buildings, etc.
Northern Healthy Connections Society received funding from the Colchester Community Health Board for two metal sharps lock boxes for disposal of used needles in the town of Truro. Our fixed site is located on 33 Pleasant Street in Truro. For more information on our programs check out the NHCS Needle Distribution and Disposal page, or the NHCS Facebook page.
